Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas
This summer I had the honor of working as an Intern for the 2011 Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Summer Intensive Training Session. (Don't let the picture fool you!) I spent two months in Las Vegas being trained in: AutoCAD, Rigging, Sound Design, Lighting Technology, Automation, WYSIWYG. I saw amazing shows and was given backstage tours of many of them. Some shows include: Mystere, Love, Celine Dion and many other incredible shows.
Aside from the amazing shows were also got to work with some of the best companies and theatres in all of Vegas. Companies such as PRG and SFX. We were also allowed to do many of our lessons in facilities provided by Cirque Du Soleil. Raphael Jean, the author of Devolop and Maintaining a Design-Tech Portfolio gave a weekend lecture to aid us in making contacts and getting your name exposed in the business.
At the end of the program we put on a Son et Lumiere and a short production of Fallujah for all of our sponsors. It was a perfect way to bring all of our experience into together.
My main duties as an Intern were to assist in the set up and clean up of classes each day. Running errands during the day to keep classes flowing smoothly. Grilling hot dogs, corn, turkey burgers and cooking beans for our weekly grill chats and the shopping for lunch supplies.
However, my main duty was to absorb as much knowledge as I could. Which was easy with the talented and genius teachers that SILV brought in. Designers and Technicians such as Brian Gayle, Jason Badger, Leonard Miller, Peter and Andrew Rogers and Valy Trembaly.
